Small Animal Gingerbread (Without Gingerbread) House Fail

Have you ever wanted to make your rats a gingerbread house to celebrate the holidays with?

Follow this step by step guide on how to make a gingerbread (without gingerbread) house (unfortunately mine failed spectacularly, but yours might still work!)

    You will need:

    Crackers (square ones)

    Whipped Cream

    Rice Crispies

    Pear

    Bread

    Method:

Place a cracker as the base.

Place whipped cream around the sides of the cracker.

Stick crackers up vertically using the whipped cream to stick to the base.

Place the two middle crackers so that they come together at the top.

Place whipped cream around the ‘house’.

Place whipped cream on the ‘roof’ of the house.

Place rice crispies on the whipped cream.

Add bits of pear to the ‘house’.

Place bits of bread around the ‘house’.

My house didn’t manage to stay standing through all this, but it doesn’t matter because the rats still loved it!

  • Thanksgiving craft

    Thanksgiving craft

If you want to make your own Thanksgiving turkey, here’s how I did it.

I used a cardboard tube as the body.

Using a black pen, I drew on the eyes and beak.

I then used a red pen to draw on the turkey’s wattle.

Next, I got a piece of A4 lined paper (but any kind of paper works).

I folded it over like so.

Then I folded it back over the other way.

I continued to do this over the whole sheet of paper.

I then used a red pen to colour the top half of the paper. I just used lines to give a bit of a feather effect, instead of colouring the whole thing in as a block.

I then diagonally cut the paper so that most of the non-coloured in parts were cut of, like shown.

I then folded the paper closer together ad glued it that way.

I then cut off the extra paper at the bottom.

I then glued this part to the back of the tube.

  • Cardboard Pumpkin

    Cardboard Pumpkin

This craft was included in the first ever October issue but I decided to share it again. This is a neat little cardboard pumpkin you can make as a photo prop. I don’t recommend leaving it with your rats unsupervised though.

    What you will need:

    Cardboard

    Scissors

Paint (orange and green), nontoxic, child safe is best

    Staples and stapler

    Method:

Take a piece of cardboard and cut out a half pumpkin shape.

Repeat the process five more times.

    Paint both sides orange.

    Paint the stalks green.

Staple all the pieces together and paint over the staples.

  • DIY Denim Hammock

    DIY Denim Hammock

Tired of buying expensive hammocks for your rats who end up chewing them anyway? There might be another solution.

Making your own hammocks can be easy and fun – not to mention cost effective!

To make your own no-sew, denim hammock, you will need:

    * A pair of old denim jeans (I use ones that were torn and would otherwise end up in the bin)

    * Fabric scissors

    * Hammock clips

Take your jeans and, using the fabric scissors, cut a portion of the leg the size you want your hammock to be.

Next, turn up the ends of your ‘hammock’

Use fabric scissors to cut four holes (2 in each side) at the ends of the ‘hammock’. Make sure to cut through both layers of denim.

Put hammock clips through the holes and hang it up!

You can hang your new hammock up using only two hammock clips, or four.

Here’s a couple of pictures of Bailey enjoying the hammock!
